Book summary

Here Nietzsche attacks the certainties of philosophers, who claim to seek the truth without bias. He asks where our ideas of good and evil come from, and distinguishes a master morality, which celebrates strength and pride, from a slave morality, which makes virtues of humility and pity.

A provocative book that makes you ask why you believe what you believe. It gave us a famous line: “if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you”.

Written in fragments, often very short ones, it can be read one aphorism at a time, at your own pace, in the language you are learning.

The plot

Questioning good and evil. Everyone thinks they know what is good and what is evil. These rules seem eternal.

The world of the book

A book conceived in Switzerland for all of Europe. The preface was signed in 1885 in Sils-Maria, a village in the Swiss Alps where the author spent his summers.
