About this book

In December 1936 Orwell arrives in Barcelona to fight against Franco and joins a militia of the P.O.U.M. on the Aragon front. He describes the cold, the lice, the boredom of the trenches and the strange equality of a revolutionary army. Back in Barcelona, he witnesses the street fighting of May 1937 and the purge that turns his own side into outlaws. Wounded in the throat, he leaves Spain hunted by the police of the government he came to defend. A first-hand account of a war within the war — and of how the truth about it was rewritten before it was even over.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
