Book summary

In the nineteenth century, on the Pacific Ocean, the sailing ship carrying two eight-year-old cousins, Dick and Emmeline, towards San Francisco catches fire at sea. The children escape in a small boat with Paddy Button, an old Irish sailor, and the fog separates them from the other boats. They land on a desert island, surrounded by a coral reef that shelters a blue lagoon. Paddy fishes, cooks and looks after them. The years pass: with no school and no society to explain the world to them, the children grow up in freedom, and their feelings for each other change. An adventure novel about nature, innocence and the discovery of love.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
