Book summary

A speculative novel narrated by Arthur Marcel, a well-off Englishman returning from three years of travel. On the liner bringing him back from New York, he meets Herbert Brande, a brilliant scientist who believes the universe is a mistake, and his sister Natalie, who fascinates him. To stay close to her, he joins the secret society that Brande leads. He discovers that its members communicate by thought, do away with anyone whose loyalty is in doubt, and intend to destroy the Earth with the energy locked inside atoms. A dark and strange story in which science becomes a threat to the whole world.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
