The Empty House

A collection of ten supernatural stories. In the title story, young Jim Shorthouse goes with his Aunt Julia, who is passionate about psychical research, to spend a night in an empty house in a small seaside town, where a crime was committed a century earlier. Shorthouse returns in several other stories, as far afield as New York. The tales also lead to an island on a Canadian lake, to a student’s room in Edinburgh and to a hunting camp deep in the forests of Quebec. Stories in which fear arises from atmosphere and suggestion.
