Book summary

An English comic novel. In London, Lionel Mortimer, a young barrister without clients and a writer without a publisher, can no longer pay his rent. He stops a runaway horse and comes to the aid of a young woman, Beatrice Blair, who tells him a story about a secret treaty coveted by governments and asks him to help her burgle a house to get it back. Lionel gladly agrees. Other characters become involved, among them Tony Wild, a wealthy idler in search of thrills, and the affair leads all the way to a country inn. A light-hearted adventure, full of twists and humour.

The plot

A dream of adventure comes true. In London, Lionel Mortimer, an educated and ever-cheerful young man, has only a few coins left. His landlady wants her rent the next day.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
