Book summary

An English novel. Barrie MacDonald is eighteen and is growing up near Carlisle, close to Scotland, with a stern grandmother who hates the theatre and has let her believe that her mother was dead. When she learns that this mother, an actress, is very much alive, Barrie runs away to find her. She meets a wealthy Scot back from America, who takes her, together with a brother and sister who write travel novels, on a motor tour of Scotland. Told partly by Barrie herself, a fresh romantic comedy full of Scottish landscapes.

The plot

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
