Prince Myshkin returns from Switzerland to St Petersburg without a penny, so disarmingly kind that people take him for a simpleton. He finds himself caught between Nastasya, beautiful and wounded, who throws a hundred thousand roubles into the fire in front of a full drawing room, Aglaya, lively and mocking, and Rogozhin, whose passion makes him dangerous.
Dostoevsky wanted to portray a truly good man and see what the world would do with him. Scandals, inheritances, rivalries: you keep turning the pages to find out how far these characters will go, and the prince stays with you long after the last one.
With the translation always before your eyes, you can read this great novel by Dostoevsky, in full, in the language you are learning.
