Book summary

An American novel from 1915. One June morning, a young man who calls himself Walker Farr walks the roads of New England. He looks like a tramp, but he speaks like an educated man and hides his past. He stops in Marion, a cotton-mill town where typhoid fever strikes poor families. The cause is the river water sold by the company of Colonel Dodd, who also controls the state’s politicians. Asking nothing for himself, Farr joins the fight and meets Kate Kilgour, Dodd’s secretary. A lively novel about the courage of one man standing alone against a political machine.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
