Book summary

A detective novel by A. A. Milne, published in 1922. One summer afternoon, at his English country house, the wealthy Mark Ablett is expecting his brother Robert, back from Australia after fifteen years away. Soon after Robert arrives, a shot rings out in the office, which is locked. Antony Gillingham, who has come to see his friend Bill, gets in through the window with Mark’s cousin: Robert is dead, and Mark has vanished. The police suspect Mark; Antony runs his own investigation, with Bill as his assistant, like Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. A locked-room puzzle, built with logic and told with humour.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
