Book summary

An English novel from 1847. In the windswept hills of northern England, at the end of the eighteenth century, Mr Earnshaw brings home from Liverpool an abandoned child, who is named Heathcliff, and raises him in his old, isolated farmhouse alongside his own children, Hindley and Catherine. Hated by Hindley, Heathcliff becomes Catherine’s inseparable companion. But she turns towards Edgar Linton, son of the wealthy family in the valley, and the wounded Heathcliff nurses a revenge that will weigh on two generations. Told mostly by the servant Nelly Dean, this is a dark and passionate story of love, jealousy and revenge.

The benefits of the bilingual method with Line-by-line synced layout

Every line of the original has its translation directly beneath it, at the same height. You never lose your place: your eye drops one line and lands on exactly the sentence it just read. This is the layout that lets you open a book in a language you barely know without ever giving up, and compare the two texts almost word for word.

The excerpt shows the method using another book from the catalogue, not this one.
